Apple favoring battery upgrades over other features

The Apple Watch Series 7 is projected to land the next fall with massive improvements, not only in terms of design, as the device could finally come with smaller bezels, but also as far as feature as concerned.

We’ve known for a while that Apple is currently working on things like blood glucose monitoring and a body temperature tracker, but according to various reports, these features may not make their way to this year’s Apple Watch.

And according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, there’s a good reason this is unlikely to happen this year. And it all comes down to another area that Apple wants to improve on its smartwatch: the battery life.

A difficult tradeoff

As it turns out, Apple has made improving the battery life of the Apple Watch a priority this year, so instead of trying to bring new health capabilities to the Series 7, the company just wants to make sure the device would offer increased autonomy.

What this means in terms of real-life performance is hard to tell at this point, but in the short term, this is clearly good news for users who want more than just one day per charge.

But on the other hand, Apple Watch not getting new capabilities in terms of health features could affect its progress in the long term. Apple Watch is known as one of the devices that made certain features, such as the ECG sensor, truly mainstream across the industry, so Apple focusing on the battery life could eventually be bad news not for the device itself but for the entire world as a whole.

Apple has obviously remained completely tight-lipped on its Apple Watch plans, but given the device is projected to land in September, expect more information to surface rather sooner than later.
