The device is expected to see daylight later this year

In addition to the highly anticipated Apple Watch Series 8, which will undoubtedly see the daylight in September, as per Apple’s typical calendar, the Cupertino-based tech giant is also working on another smartwatch unveiling for 2022.

It’s the new-generation Apple Watch SE, which will get a refresh later this year, and iDropNews claims the debut will happen in September as well.

But more importantly, the new Apple Watch SE is unlikely to come with massive design changes versus the model currently on the market and unveiled in 2020.

The company will launch two different models, 40mm and 44mm, and aluminum will probably be the only option for all buyers.

Massive feature upgrades

On the other hand, the new SE will come with massive upgrades under the hood, as the smartwatch will get a new chip – most likely the S7 – as well as new capabilities.

For example, the report adds that the Apple Watch SE 2022 could be equipped with a new ECG sensor, just like its premium sibling, while also featuring always-on support and better audio. Without a doubt, this makes it a pretty solid smartwatch, and priced appropriately, it could end up becoming quite a hit and a serious alternative to other affordable smartwatches on the market.

But speaking of the price, iDropNews claims there’s a chance the new Apple Watch SE would be a little bit more expensive. Due to inflation, Apple plans to increase the price by approximately $20, so the new Apple Watch SE will start at $299.

This still keeps it rather affordable as compared to its more premium siblings, especially because it costs some $100 less. Obviously, all these details could change by the time the device sees the daylight in the fall, so you’d better take everything with a healthy pinch of salt for now.
