The AirPower project is officially retired, it seems

Apple announced the AirPower with much fanfare a long time ago, promising users would be able to wirelessly recharge all their Apple products at the same time in just one place.

Needless to say, the benefits of AirPower were more than obvious for someone who was fully committed to the Apple ecosystem, as it allowed users to recharge an iPhone, the AirPods, and the Apple Watch by simply putting these devices on the mat.

Everything was extremely convenient, allowing simultaneous recharging of all these devices.

But as we learned not a long time ago, Apple has since abandoned the plan to launch AirPower due to technical reasons, so right now, the only way to go for such functionality is to purchase a third-party product that can do the same thing.

The good news is that there are several choices to fulfill this need out there, and the bad news is that Apple still plans to bring a wireless charger to the market, only that it’ll be a lot less exciting.

Sketchy details

The problem right now is that we still don’t know how less exciting we’re talking about here, as a report from Bloomberg indicates that Apple is already working on such a device, only that the site describes it as a “less ambitious” device.

What this means is something that remains to be discovered, but for now, there’s a chance that the original AirPower capabilities won’t make their way to this new product.

In other words, we could actually lose the simultaneous charging, but for the time being, this is just speculation on our side and additional info is yet to be available.

When exactly Apple wants to finalize this product is also a mystery, so let’s give the leaksters some time and with a little luck, it won’t be long until we find out more about the whole thing.
