The older model could stick around, it seems

Apple is expected to take the wraps off a new iPhone SE in March, with the company to therefore pave the way for the demise of the iPhone mini in September.

In other words, the new iPhone SE is likely to become the only small iPhone in Apple’s lineup, as the 5.4-inch form factor would be retired when the iPhone 14 launches in the fall.

The new iPhone SE will look and feel a lot like the current model, meaning that it’ll retain the look based on the iPhone 8. It will continue to feature a home button with Touch ID, obviously without Face ID and a notch.

Apple will focus on under-the-hood upgrades, so the device will be powered by a new-generation Bionic chip and sport 5G support and improved cameras.

Old iPhone SE to stick around

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in the latest newsletter that Apple could eventually decide to keep the current iPhone SE around for a little longer, therefore bringing the smartphone to a new all-time low price.

This means the iPhone SE could get even cheap, and Gurman suggests a $199 price tag that would make the iPhone extremely affordable.

Obviously, this could help Apple gain market share in the fight against Android devices, though on the other hand, selling cheap devices has never been Apple’s thing.

For the time being, however, it’s important to know everything is still in the rumor stage. The Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to start sending invites for its spring event any day now, at which point we’ll know exactly when the iPhone SE is supposed to be announced.

According to people familiar with Apple’s plans, the new iPhone SE should hit the shelves by the end of the month.
