Apple is reportedly planning a new iPhone X color that could launch later this year and help boost sales of the model.

While no specifics are available for the time being, Japanese site Makotakara, who has a good track on Apple information, says the new iPhone X color version is specifically supposed to boost sales of the entire lineup, although it’s not clear why the expectations are so high.

A new color version of the iPhone X could indeed increase sales at some level, but on the other hand, with the high price considered to be a major setback, it’s unlikely to have a big impact on shipments without a substantial discount. The iPhone X starts at $999 in the United States, with the second option available for $1,149.

Apple sells the iPhone X in two different color versions, namely space gray and silver, so if this report is accurate, a third model could see daylight in the coming months.

Recently, it’s been rumored that Apple might be launching a gold iPhone X, and with the company holding an event next week, it was believed this could be the right moment to at least preview the device.

At the same time, information coming from leakster @OneLeaks on Twitter suggests that (PRODUCT)RED versions of the 2017 iPhones are also on their way, but it’s not clear if this is the color that today’s report is pointing to or not. Apple launched three different iPhones last year, namely iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

The iPhone X is projected to receive an upgrade later this year when a new model could see daylight alongside a Plus-sized version with a display as large as 6.5 inches. Additionally, a more affordable iPhone configuration with an LCD screen is also expected this year, and people close to the matter say that Face ID and a bezel-less design are both likely on all models.
