Details still scarce, could be limited to specific markets

Given its lower price, the iPhone XR is the most anticipated 2018 iPhone, with pre-orders set to kick off next week in the first markets.

And as it turns out, those who want to purchase the device may also have a little something to spend extra on, as Apple is preparing a clear case for this model that could go on sale as soon as Friday too.

The clear case for the iPhone XR was actually spotted in an official press release published by Apple. Surprisingly, however, it wasn’t the press release that Apple rolled out globally, but only the one posted on its Australian website.

The release reveals that “Apple-designed accessories for iPhone XR including a clear case will be available starting at $55 (CAD),” which makes us believe that this accessory may only be sold in select markets.

Cheaper cases everywhere you look

A rendering published by 9to5mac shows that Apple’s clear case would look just like a regular clear case, so there may not be anything special to convince you to buy it. Needless to say, there’ll be hundreds of such models available worldwide, and especially in China, with prices obviously much lower than Apple’s.

At this point, a clear case for an iPhone XS costs anywhere from a couple of dollars to $100 on websites like eBay.

Apple’s new iPhone XR will be available in several colors, so it makes sense for the company to release a clear case. This way, the device can be protected, and the color can still be observed to distinguish it from the previous-generation models.

If this makes any difference, clear cases for iPhone XR are already up for grabs from other retailers, and they cost nearly half as much as Apple is going to ask for its own version.

iPhone XR will begin shipping to first customers on October 26. Pricing starts at $749 in the United States, so you may end up spending nearly $800 if you want the clear case too.
