New-generation AirPods expected in the fourth quarter

Apple could launch the third-generation AirPods as soon as this year, according to a new report, with a reliable analyst also adding that two different models could be introduced.

First of all, Digitimes indicates that the AirPods 3 could see daylight in late 2019 with noise cancellation. The device would be manufactured by Inventec and Luxshare Precision, just like the second-generation model.

While no specifics are provided, the late 2019 launch date could mean that Apple might show the third-generation AirPods at the new iPhone unveiling in September, while sales could kick off later this year.

Two new AirPods models

Top-rated Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also says that new AirPods are on their way, but this time, we don’t get just a single model, but two of them.

Kuo says Apple could unveil two new iterations of the earphones, one with the existing AirPods design, and another one that would feature a completely new form factor and be sold at a higher price.

Again, no details are offered, so at this point it’s not known if the cheaper model borrows the price tag of the $159 base AirPods or the $199 top version.

Kuo claims Apple could release the new AirPods in the fourth quarter of 2019 or the first quarter of 2020.

Needless to say, this report should still be taken with a pinch of salt, as we’re still far away from the moment the third-generation AirPods is projected to see daylight.

However, most sources seem to indicate that at least one new model is on its way to the market this year, and if no major changes happen at Apple, some official news on this front could be shared either at the iPhone unveiling in September or shortly after that. No matter the case, expect more information to make the rounds through unofficial channels in the coming months.
