Company starts new survey with iPhone 12 owners

Earlier this year before rolling out the iPhone 12, Apple started surveying customers about what was believed to be a major change the company actually planned on its smartphone: the removal of the charger from the box, something that the industry is now projected to adopt en-masse.

Apple eventually gave up on the charger, so the iPhone 12 only ships with a Lightning cable in the box.

And now the company has kicked off another survey, once again suggesting something big is on its way to the iPhone. This time, according to a report from 9to5mac, the focus is on Face ID, the facial recognition system that replaced Touch ID with the debut of the iPhone X.

By the looks of things, Apple wants to hear the opinions of iPhone 12 buyers on Face ID, trying to determine how satisfied they actually are with how facial recognition works on their brand-new smartphones.

One of the answers concerns Touch ID, and it’s believed the reason for the survey is Apple actually trying to figure out if the return of fingerprint recognition makes any sense at all.

Touch ID returning next year?

Several people close to the matter previously said Touch ID could return at some point on the iPhone, and 2021 is believed to be the year when the whole thing happens.

However, it’s not known how exactly Touch ID is set to return to the iPhone, as Apple could very well integrate it into the screen but at the same time could also include it into the power button and thus allow for easy unlocking when waking up the device.

Needless to say, everything is still in the rumor stage at this point, so you’d better not hold your breath for this change on the iPhone.
