Apple has filed a lawsuit against partner Geep Canada, accusing the company of bringing back on the market over 100,000 devices that were supposed to be stripped down and recycled.

If you watched Apple’s live events, you probably noticed that the Cupertino-based tech giant is making investments in reducing the environmental impact a priority in the long term. And because it wants old devices to be recycled correctly, it was working with Geep Canada to take care of old electronics.

But according to a lawsuit filed recently, what its partners did was actually bring back to the market around 100,000 iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches that were supposed to be retired completely.

While Apple claims that the whole thing happened with its partner knowing about it, the devices that were supposed to be destroyed ended up on the market with the involvement of employees part of the senior management team.

Apple already ended its collaboration with Geep

Apple claims it provided Geep Canada with nearly 532,000 iPhones, more than 25,670 iPads, and over 19,000 Apple Watches to recycle between January 2015 and December 2017, However, over 100,000 units were then spotted on carrier networks, Apple says.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is now suing its former partner seeking not only to get back all the money that Geep Canada made from the sale of its devices. At the same time, Apple wants $22.7 million in damages.

In the meantime, Apple has already dropped its partnership with Geep after discovering the wrongdoings, with the company in the meantime merging with a series of other firms to create Quantum Lifecycle Partners.

According to a report from The Logic, the lawsuit was filed in January this year, but surprisingly Geep responded with a countersuit in July.

No official statements from the companies involved in the legal dispute are available right now.
