The iPhone 14 isn’t exactly just around the corner, but Apple needs to make sure the device will work just as expected. And this is the reason the company is planning everything in advance, and one way to do this is by running the trial production as early as possible.

According to a recent report, Apple has already kicked off the trial production of the iPhone 14, a process that’s supposed to give the company access to essential data regarding the manufacturing process based on the changes it made on the smartphone.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean the iPhone 14 design is set in stone already, but if Apple doesn’t come across any big problem, there’s a chance the device is mostly finalized.

The iPhone 14 lineup

The upcoming iPhone 14 is expected to come with a four-model lineup as well, though this year, the Cupertino-based company will produce one major change: the iPhone mini will go away.

In other words, the 5.4-inch model would be killed off after only two generations, as Apple wants the iPhone SE to be the only small version on the market.

The iPhone mini will be replaced by a new base iPhone with a larger screen similar to the one on the Pro Max. In other words, the lineup will include two 6.1-inch models and two 6.7-inch versions.

In the meantime, Apple is also projected to take the wraps off a new iPhone SE as soon as the next month. The design of this new model will continue to remain of the iPhone 8, so the device will not feature a massive look update, but Apple will focus mostly on 5G capabilities and upgraded internals.

Next year, however, the iPhone SE could get a major upgrade to use the iPhone XR design and capabilities, according to sources familiar with the plans.
