14 DAY TRIAL // After releasing last week the iOS 11.2 update to supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, Apple today released the final version of its tvOS 11.2 operating system for supported Apple TV devices.
tvOS 11.2 is an incremental updates to the tvOS 11 operating system launched by Apple in September 2017 for Apple TV 4th generation and Apple TV 4K devices. It comes about five weeks after the previous version, namely tvOS 11.1, and bring various improvements, bug fixes, and security enhacements.
Among the new features implemented in tvOS 11.2, we can mention the ability for Apple TV 4K devices to automatically switch to native frame rate and dynamic range of video content, along with support for switching the display output to SDR for apps that are bound to the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) when running in HDR mode.
Additionally, tvOS 11.2 makes it possible to restore the Unwatched category in Home Videos, Home Sharing for Movies, and TV Shows, automatically uses region during setup or when changing the region to suggest a refresh rate of 50Hz or 60Hz, and implements introductory pricing for auto-renewable subscriptions.
"Soon, you’ll be able to offer new customers a discounted introductory price for your auto-renewable subscriptions on the App Store," said Apple in the release notes. "You’ll be able to configure introductory pricing on your in-app purchase page in iTunes Connect soon."
tvOS 11.2 now available for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV 4th Gen
Among other improvements implemented by Apple in the tvOS 11.2 software update, we can mention that Apple TV devices now sleep as expected after exiting video playback, and the users should no longer notice poor responsiveness when swiping between apps in App Switcher.
tvOS 11.2 is now available for all Apple TV 4K and Apple TV 4th Generation users, so please make sure you install the update at your earliest convenience. For tvOS app developers, the tvOS 11.2 SDK is also out and comes bundled with the Xcode 9.2 IDE for developing tvOS apps for tvOS 11.2.
