Now that Apple has released the iOS 9.3 update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, the time has come for you to upgrade your Mac's operating system to OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan.

After being in Beta for the past several months, the fourth maintenance release of the El Capitan operating system is now live for all supported MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac computers.

Among the new features implemented by Apple in this update, we can notice that you'll be able to secure your notes in the Notes app with either a password or your touch ID (fingerprint).

Additionally, the Notes app has also gained the ability to sort notes alphabetically, by date created or by date modified, just like on the iOS 9.3 mobile operating system, and users can finally import their Evernote files.

After updating your Mac to OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan (see the last paragraph below for instructions on how to update), you will be able to share Live Photos between your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch devices and your Mac computer via the Messages app or the AirDrop feature.

iBooks and Photos improvements, bugfixes

In addition to the new features mentioned above, the Mac OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan update also improves the opening of RAW images in the Photos app, implements support for storing PDF files in iCloud for the iBooks app so that you can access them from any of your devices, and fixes multiple Safari issues.

Lastly, the reliability and compatibility with Apple USB-C multipart adapters have been greatly improved, the issue that caused USB audio devices to disconnect has been fixed, and VIP mailboxes should now work correctly for Gmail accounts. Mac OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan is now live in the Mac App Store.

To update, fire up the Mac App Store application from the dock, go to the Updates tab, wait for the OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan update to appear in the list of updates, and click the "Update" button to the right of the entry. Then click on the "Download and Restart" button, wait for OS X 10.11.4 to be downloaded and installed. Your Mac will be rebooted for the update to be applied. Enjoy OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan!
