Just a few moments ago, Apple released the first Beta builds of the upcoming point releases of the recently announced iOS 10, macOS 10.12 Sierra, watchOS 3, and tvOS 10 operating systems.

The new maintenance updates will be macOS 10.12.1 Sierra, iOS 10.1, watchOS 3.1, and tvOS 10.0.1, and developers registered into the Apple Developer program can now download the Beta 1 builds, which were tagged as iOS 10.1 Beta 1 (14B55c), macOS Sierra 10.12.1 Beta 1 (16B2327e), watchOS 3.1 Beta 1 (14S452), and tvOS 10.0.1 Beta 1 (14U54).

Additionally, Apple also seeded the first Beta release of the upcoming Xcode 8.1 IDE (Integrated Development Environment), which has been tagged as 8T29o. All these Beta builds are available right now for installation on your registered devices, but they probably contain only small bug fixes and a few under-the-hood improvements.

Xcode 8.1 Beta 1 includes Swift 3

In some good news, you should know that the recently released Swift 3 open-source programming language has been included as well in the Xcode 8.1 Beta 1 development milestone, along with SDKs (Software Development Kits) that you can use to build and test your apps for the next versions of iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS.

At the moment, these new Betas of iOS 10.1, macOS 10.12.1 Sierra, watchOS 3.1, and tvOS 10.0.1 are only available to registered developers, but public beta testers should be able to install them in the coming days. Rest assured that we will announce it here when they become available for us, mortals.

However, don't expect any major new features to be implemented in iOS 10.1, macOS Sierra 10.12.1, watchOS 3.1, or tvOS 10.0.1, because they are simply point releases that fix important security issues and repair some of the bugs that Apple left in the previous builds, and the long-anticipated portrait feature for the new iPhone 7 Plus devices.
