While the AirTag is essentially a pretty useful little device that makes it possible for users to easily keep an eye on their belongings, it can very well be used to track someone.

And Apple knows how important it is for people to be aware an AirTag is around, and this is why it makes it possible for iPhone users to be notified when such a device is nearby.

Now the company has come up with an Android app that does pretty much the same, therefore allowing users who are still on Google’s mobile platform to scan for trackers in their proximity and thus determine if someone is tracking their location or not.

App already up for grabs

The app is called Tracker Detect, and it’s been published on the Google Play Store quite recently.

“Tracker Detect looks for item trackers that are separated from their owner and that are compatible with Apple’s Find My network. These item trackers include AirTag and compatible devices from other companies. If you think someone is using AirTag or another device to track your location, you can scan to try to find it,” the description of the app reads.

Apple’s application requires Android 9 and newer, and it can be freely installed by anyone with access to the Google Play store.

In the meantime, the AirTag is being used for all kinds of nefarious purposes, including by thieves to track cars. The police have recently warned that AirTags are being used by new-gen thieves specifically to follow a target and figure out where the car is parked, so an application like Tracker Detect should make it easier for everybody to figure out if they’re tracked or not.

Apple hasn’t publicly announced the new app, but you can already download it from the Google Play Store.
