Company seeking engineers to build more UWP apps

Apple has already released UWP versions of iTunes and iCloud, but the company may be aiming for more as far as its Windows 10 expansion is concerned.

After breaking up iTunes into three separate macOS apps, Apple might be going for a similar approach on Windows 10, so the company has started looking for engineers that could help make this happen.

A job listing spotted by Neowin reveals that the company wants to “build the next generation of media apps for Windows,” pointing out that “experience with UWP is a big plus.”

By the looks of things, Apple wants Windows 10 to benefit from a similar approach like its very own macOS.

Windows 10 and Xbox

Earlier this year, the Cupertino-based tech giant decided to split iTunes in three separate apps on its platforms, with Podcasts, TV, and Music available exclusively for its users. As far as Windows is concerned, users here are still provided with the same old-school iTunes app, which is offered both outside and inside the store.

“If you love music and you are passionate about writing code, and want to work with world-class engineering teams that ship to millions of users, the Media Apps team is the place for you,” Apple explains in the job ad.

For Apple, this is clearly an ambitious project, as bringing more UWP apps to Windows 10 means the company can expand its services to Microsoft’s platform in a way that makes more sense going forward. UWP apps allow Apple to go not only for Windows 10 PC users, but also for Xbox users, where apps like Podcasts, TV, and Music just fit in perfectly.

On Windows, Apple Music and Apple TV Plus subscribers can only access these services by connecting to their web versions, so with dedicated apps, Apple can reduce the gap between the two platforms, while also making its offering available for more potential customers.
