Dynamic Wallpapers and Live Wallpapers are gone

iOS 16 is one of the biggest updates in a very long time for the supported iPhones out there, and while it does come plenty of new features, it also includes a change that most users seem to hate.

Apple has quietly removed the older Dynamic Wallpapers and Live Wallpapers from the operating system. So if you liked setting dark and light wallpapers on your iPhone, the whole thing is now available in a dedicated menu under the wallpaper section.

On the other hand, Apple removing the old wallpapers is something that took many by surprise, especially because some users out there just wanted to stick with the stock backgrounds.

But at the same time, the company has added new lock screen customization options, letting users create wallpapers that include widgets and new clock styling options. But once again, this feature leaves a lot to be desired, as the widgets can’t be added to the current image configured on the lock screen, so users need to create a new wallpaper from scratch.

Needless to say, Apple is praising its new lock screen without discussing the shortcomings that so many users seem to hate.

“The new Lock Screen gallery features a range of options. Users can choose an intelligently suggested photo from their personal library that will look great on the Lock Screen, or a dynamic set of photos that shuffle throughout the day,” Apple explains.

“Apple collections include iconic imagery from Apple; Pride and Unity wallpapers; a Weather wallpaper to see live weather conditions as they change throughout the day; and an Astronomy wallpaper for views of the Earth, moon, and solar system. Users can also create unique designs with their favorite emoji and color combinations, and with multiple Lock Screens, users can switch between their favorites with just a swipe.”
