Apple is expected to feature a 5.8-inch OLED display on its upcoming iPhone 8, while the other two phones set to launch this year will have IPS LCD screens. A new report from Patently Apple says that the company plans to use OLED displays in all iPhones by 2019.

Reportedly, Apple will use three Korean suppliers for flexible circuit boards for the iPhone 8. Apple is expected to equip about 60 million iPhones with OLED screens and double the adoption next year. It also intends to use OLED for all of its new iPhones by 2019.

This would mean that the upcoming iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will be the last iPhones to feature IPS LCD displays, before Apple switches to OLED completely. However, the report should be taken with a grain of salt, considering that the source is an individual supplier and Apple doesn’t disclose long-term strategies to supply partners.

iPhone 8 will have a 5.8-inch OLED display

Multiple recent reports have pointed to the fact that the upcoming iPhone 8 will have the largest display out of the three Apple phones expected to be announced this year. The iPhone 8 will be the first to feature an OLED display and will ditch the physical home button.

There’s also information that it might feature a function area for replacing the home button and accommodating an edge-to-edge screen on the new phone. The actual usable screen will be about 5.15 inches, while the rest will be represented by the function area.

The iPhone 7s will have a 4.7-inch LCD display, while the iPhone 7s Plus will be slightly larger at 5.5 inches. Apple’s iPhone 8 will also feature a revolutionary front-facing camera capable of producing 3D selfies and providing face recognition features for unlocking the phone. The camera sensor will replace the Touch ID, while a fingerprint scanner is expected to be built into the display.
