Apple has already shipped beta versions of iOS 14.5 to developers and public testers out there, and one of the biggest changes all these users can try out is a new pack of emoticons.

Because yes, emoji continues to be an essential part of the way we express in email and messaging apps, and Apple uses the upcoming iOS 14.5 to enhance them with new designs and smiley faces.

As noted by Emojipedia, Apple is adding new couples with a mix of skin tones, as well as three new smiley faces that are part of the update. There are also two new heart emoticons, namely heart on fire and mending heart.

While most emoticons are part of Emoji 13.1, Apple is also working on making the designs look more modern, and in some cases, to align the way they look with what its users actually expect.

New emoji coming in iOS 14.5

This is why the headphones emoji is getting a new look that replaces the generic design with one that’s inspired by the new AirPods Max. Furthermore, the syringe emoji, which has been around for a while, is getting a new look that drops the blook, and it’s believed this is a change that makes sense during these crazy times when everybody is waiting for a vaccine.

Apple hasn’t provided any information as to when iOS 14.5 could go live for users, but the new emoji being included in this update is a little bit surprising.

Most people expected Emoji 13.1 to be part of the iOS 15 update due in the fall, so Apple is clearly working around the clock to keep its emoji collection as fresh as possible.

You can try out all the new designs by installing the latest iOS betas released by Apple for public beta testers and developers.
