The company has launched a free service program

Apple has just announced that it’s offering a free repair program for certain iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro units that are experiencing sound issues.

The company explains that it’s all caused by a faulty component integrated into the receiver.

The iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 12 Pro Max aren’t affected, and the models that are eligible for the free servicing are manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.

In theory, the repairs would be covered by warranty anyway given the iPhone 12 is less than a year old, but Apple says it’ll perform the repairs free of charge at its stores or at authorized service providers.

“Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices may experience sound issues due to a component that might fail on the receiver module. Affected devices were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021. If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not emit sound from the receiver when you make or receive calls, it may be eligible for service,” the company explains.

Free repairs

As usual, iPhones that come with other damages that affect the free repairs wouldn’t be services unless the other problems are resolved first.

In other words, if the device comes with another issue that prevents the company from taking care of the sound problems, you could end up getting charged for the repairs.

“If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair,” the company explains.

Apple is getting ready to launch a new iPhone generation, with the unveiling projected to take place as soon as the next month, with sales to begin shortly after that.
