Cupertino officially announces support for Malala Fund

Apple has officially become one of the biggest supporters of Malala Fund, a charity founded by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai and fighting for equal opportunity and improving girls’ education.

Apple CEO Tim Cook will also join the Malala Fund leadership council, and the charity hopes that with support from the technology company, it would be able to double the number of grants included in its Gulmakai Network.

Tim Cook, an avid Apple Watch user, and Malala Yousafzai, who appears to like the Fitbit Charge 2 more, met with Lebanese and Syrian students in Beirut, Lebanon, announcing the partnership and how the Cupertino-based firm will support the expansion of Malala’s efforts.

The company says that it would assist the fund with technology, curriculum, and research, though no other specifics were provided in the official press release.

Obviously, both Cook and Malala praised the collaboration, pointing out that it should help more girls around the world benefit from free and quality education.

“We believe that education is a great equalizing force, and we share Malala Fund’s commitment to give every girl an opportunity to go to school,” said Tim Cook. “Malala is a courageous advocate for equality. She’s one of the most inspiring figures of our time, and we are honored to help her extend the important work she is doing to empower girls around the world.”

Malala Yousafzai is a 20-year-old Pakistani activist for women education and equal opportunity. She became the youngest Nobel Prize laureate in 2014 after blogging at the age of 11 about the Taliban occupation of her home city, eventually being injured by a gunman who attempted to kill her.

Apple is no stranger of supporting charities and truth be told, such news are a welcome breath of fresh air for the company itself given the bad press it received lately. The firm is being sued and investigated in the biggest markets across the world after acknowledging that it slowed down iPhones with degraded batteries on purpose.

At the same time, issues with the iPhone X keep being reported, with one analyst projecting that the company could end production of the anniversary model as soon as this year.
