The most exciting product in years, that’s for sure

The foldable revolution is happening as we speak, and while Samsung is clearly enjoying its time on the market, Apple just wants to sit and watch what happens in markets across the world.

In other words, the Cupertino-based iPhone manufacturer doesn’t want to release a foldable form factor until the market has reached the maturity level where such a device would experience record sales.

This is the reason a foldable iPhone isn’t expected until 2025 at the earliest. But on the other hand, this doesn’t necessarily mean Apple isn’t exploring foldable screens.

It does, and according to Display Supply Chain Consultants, the company’s first foldable screen could go live on a laptop. That’s right, Apple might be working on a foldable laptop, and it could come with a very innovative approach, including a whole new series of uses from one end to another.

Don’t hold your breath for the device

The analyst firm says the device could launch in the second half of the decade.

“On the other hand, we are now showing Apple in our roadmap for foldable notebooks. We hear there is interest at the largest size yet, around 20.x”. This size could create a new category for Apple and would result in a true dual use product, a notebook with a full-size keyboard when folded and for use as a monitor when not folded and used with an external keyboard. It may also allow for UHD/4K resolution or even higher at that size. The time frame is likely later than 2025 though, it could be 2026 or 2027,” the analysts said.

Of course, Apple has remained fully tight-lipped on the whole thing for now, so it’s better to take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism.

And given Apple hasn’t offered any sort of information, don’t be too surprised if the plan is actually different and such a device, if it exists, ends up launching in a different year.
