The company will stop selling this model in September

The debut of a new iPhone generation in September will be the perfect opportunity for the Cupertino-based parent company to ditch some older models.

And according to a report from iDropNews citing internal Apple sources, one of the models that would be ditched in the fall is the iPhone 11.

Since Apple will launch the new iPhone 14 family, the company will continue to stick with the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 13 going forward. In other words, Apple will sell no less than three different iPhone generations, so keeping the iPhone 11 around doesn’t make much sense.

Furthermore, the iPhone SE will also represent the smallest iPhone on the market, as Apple reportedly plans to drop the iPhone mini form factor this year.

However, it’s still not clear if the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini would continue to be sold given the iPhone SE is Apple’s big bet on this front, but don’t be too surprised if these models are pulled once the iPhone 14 goes live.

The debut of iOS 16

In the meantime, everybody’s wondering what iPhone models are supposed to receive the upcoming iOS 16 operating system update, also due in September.

I’m hearing from people with knowledge of the matter that Apple plans to ditch the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, so if you want to get the iOS 16 update, you must be using at least an iPhone 7.

The change kind of makes sense, though I’m also being told that Apple was in doubt regarding the iPhone 7 as well. The new capabilities bundled with iOS 16 require newer hardware, and the iPhone 7 might have a hard time dealing with all the requirements to smoothly run this OS version.

If anything, we should hear more about iOS 16 sooner rather than later, as a preview is expected to be demonstrated at WWDC.
