New data from TrendForce anticipates a change of places at the top of the phone industry in the fourth quarter of the year, especially as Samsung declines while Apple records growing demand thanks to the iPhone 14 lineup.

The company expects Samsung’s market share to drop from 22.2 percent to 20.2 percent, therefore becoming the runner-up in the mobile race.

Apple, on the other hand, would record a major boost thanks to the new iPhone generation, this time fueling a massive increase from 17.6 percent to 24.6 percent.

Xiaomi would continue to be the third company in the charts despite dropping from 13.1 percent to 12 percent share.

“Regarding the state of the smartphone market in 4Q22, the results from the recent promotional events related to China’s Singles’ Day reveal that smartphone brands have not been particularly effective in spurring devices sales by lowering prices. Consumer confidence on the whole has been heavily impacted by various economic headwinds. TrendForce estimates that global smartphone production will total around 316 million units for 4Q22, translating to a QoQ growth of 9.3%,” TrendForce says in the latest research.

“A YoY comparison will still show a decline. TrendForce points out that the smartphone market started to show signs of weakening in 3Q21. Since then, it has recorded six straight quarters of YoY decline in device production. Demand will eventually return when the correction of channel inventory is mostly completed, but this turnaround is expected to occur no earlier than 2Q23.”

Needless to say, Samsung is expected to record a substantial increase next quarter when the company is projected to unveil the new Galaxy S lineup. The device will most likely see the daylight in February, with the shipments to kick off later the same month before gaining pace in March.
