The company confirms blank screen issue on some units

Apple has announced a new Apple Watch repair program, this time aimed specifically at the 40mm version of the Apple Watch Series 6.

The company explained in an announcement recently that it discovered a blank screen problem on some units, but it specifically emphasized that only a very small number of devices is actually impacted by the whole thing.

However, because this could be a serious issue, the company is performing free-of-charge repairs, with Apple launching a dedicated page where customers can provide their serial number and figure out if their smartwatches are part of the program or not.

“Apple has determined that the screen on a very small percentage of 40mm Apple Watch Series 6 devices may go blank permanently. Affected devices were manufactured between April 2021 to September 2021. If your Apple Watch Series 6 has exhibited this issue, please use the serial number checker below to see if your device is eligible for this program. If so, Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will provide service, free of charge,” the company explained.

Worth knowing is that no other Apple Watch models are included in the program – not even the larger version of the Apple Watch Series 6.

At the same time, not all models manufactured between April 2021 and September 2021 and coming in the 40mm size could be impacted by this glitch, so it’s better to use the serial number verification tool available on Apple’s site to figure out if your own device is part of the program or not.

The company explains that the typical repair options are available for customers, including making an appointment at an Apple Retail Store or use mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center.

As always, the repairs are free, but if any damage blocks them, you might be charged for them.
