Apple is known to be working on three new smartphones to be announced later this year, the OLED iPhone 8, iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus. Details about the three devices have been surfacing for some time now, suggesting that Apple will unveil only these smartphones this year.

However, a new image from SlashLeaks allegedly reveals the rear panel for an upcoming iPhone SE, 2017 edition. The picture shows a black panel, together with a camera module at the top left corner and a cutout for the LED flash below.

The position of the single-lens camera module and the LED flash below don’t seem to resemble any renders that we’ve seen of the iPhone 8 or the upcoming iPhone 7s. Last year’s iPhone 7 had a LED flash positioned right next to the camera module, not below it, which would make us think that this rear panel could actually go on the back of a new iPhone SE.

The back panel is made out of Ion-X Glass

The Apple logo is also visible on the back, together with the iPhone moniker below. Other details that we can gather from the image are the device’s code number N79 and the fact that the smartphone will be made out of Ion-X glass, the same material found on Apple Watch Sport.

Still, the size of the actual panel is difficult to estimate, and this rear panel could actually be for the iPhone 7s. Analysts have stated that Apple is unlikely to launch a new iPhone SE model this year, despite the fact that last year’s model was quite popular.

Considering that the OLED iPhone 8 is expected to debut this fall, it would reduce sales of a potential iPhone SE 2017 considerably, seeing how the new iPhone will have a 5.8-inch display all packed into an overall size that shouldn’t surpass that of the 4.7-inch iPhone. But in terms of pricing, the iPhone SE was highly popular for its lower price compared to other iPhones and satisfactory overall performance.
