Lisa Bridgett‘s husband stated that she was injured during the Manchester bombing this Monday, but luckily she was talking on her iPhone 6s when the explosion occurred. The device managed to deflect and slow down shrapnel from the blast.

The explosion that occurred on Monday in Manchester, England, could have been fatal for Lisa Bridgett, but luckily the woman was in the middle of a phone conversation when it all happened. Her iPhone 6s managed to block shrapnel, which, sadly, proved fatal for a number of victims who were attending Ariana Grande’s concert at the time.

However, Lisa Bridgett did suffer from injuries from the attack, a piece of steel nut cut through her finger and passed through her cheek, before getting lodged in her nose. Fortunately, though, her iPhone deflected the metal piece’s trajectory, thus avoiding a fatal wound to her head.

The iPhone 6s changed the metal shrapnel’s trajectory

Lisa’s husband posted images of her smartphone on Facebook, showing how the piece of metal managed to tear the iPhone 6s’ aluminum chassis, loudspeaker, and even its display. The components were strong enough to deflect the steel nut from its original path and thus save Lisa’s life. The iPhone 6s was designed to be slightly more robust than its predecessors, which gave the phone the much-needed strength in Lisa’s benefit.

Still, Lisa suffered a thigh wound, fractured ankle and minor bruises from the explosion. Steve Bridgett says in the Facebook post that his wife feels lucky to be alive and is in a positive mood.

Other 22 people present at the concert weren’t as lucky, as they lost their lives in the explosion, and 64 were injured from metal scraps that were previously attached to the improvised explosive device to cause more casualties than conventional bombs.

This isn’t the first case in which an Apple product saves the life of its owner. In January, a MacBook Pro managed to block a stray bullet during a shooting at an airport in Florida, managing to save the life of its owner, according to Apple Insider. Last year, a Huawei P8 Lite saved a man’s life by stopping a bullet from its trajectory.
