The new iMacs spotted on Geekbench ahead of December launch

Apple will launch the new iMac Pro lineup in December this year, but some of the new models have already been spotted on Geekbench, which basically lets us have a glimpse into their hardware capabilities ahead of the official debut.

There are three listings currently on Geekbench, all of them flagged as model AAPJ1371 and running macOS. Two of the entries were created on August 22, while the third one is dated October 12.

The most recent one is a 10-core Intel Xeon W-2150B running at 3,000 MHz, and just like MacRumors spotted, they appear to be downclocked on purpose, and the Geekbench founder John Poole speculates it’s because the devices require lower thermal design power and lower frequencies because of the form factor.

But this doesn’t necessarily mean that they are underpowered. In fact, the new iMac Pro models appear to provide substantially increased performance as compared to previous generations, but also when looking at the top configurations from other manufacturers.

Much faster than the best Surface Studio

The fastest of the three models on Geekbench got a score of 5345 in single-core tests and 35917 for multi-core performance, which the cited source claiming that it’s no more, no less than 41 percent faster than the top 5K iMac available right now.

The iMac Pro has often been considered a rival to Microsoft’s Surface Studio, also an all-in-one PC with very advanced hardware, but judging from the Geekbench scores, the Apple device will provide substantially increased performance. The top Surface Studio equipped with an Intel Core i7 CPU got a score of 4481 points for single-core and 13759 for multi-core performance.

And this isn’t even the most powerful iMac Pro configuration coming to the market, with Apple also working on an 18-core model that would be even faster. Full details will be available in December when Cupertino should take the wraps off the new iMac Pro lineup, but expect all of them to come with insane processing power given these benchmarks.
