Apple has just taken the wraps off its best smartphones soon to be available on the market, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. According to the Cupertino-based company, these should be the most powerful smartphones in the world.

Apple's statement is little bit too bold to say the least, and many handset makers probably laughed when they heard it, but here is what you should expect from the latest additions to the iPhone family.

First of all, both iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will come preloaded with iOS 9 right out of the box, including the new 3D Touch experience.

The specs

On the inside, Apple confirmed both smartphones are equipped with the third-generation 64-bit A9 chip, which features 70% faster CPU and 90% faster GPU performance than the A8 chip. In addition, the new chip is said to offer much better energy efficiency for greater battery life.

Also, the new iPhone 6s smartphones pack faster Wi-Fi and LTE Advanced, something that many smartphones already have for quite some time. They also support up to 23 LTE bands, which makes them great for worldwide roaming.

On the back, the handsets pack 12-megapixel iSight cameras with advanced pixel technology and Apple-designed image signal sensor. A secondary 5-megapixel FaceTime HD camera and Retina Flash is positioned in the front.

Just like the previous models, the iPhone 6s sports a 4.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD Retina display that supports 750 x 1334 pixels resolution (326ppi) and features Ion-strengthened glass and oleophobic coating.

On the other hand, the iPhone 6s Plus boasts a much larger 5.5-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD Retina display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution that features Sapphire crystal glass and oleophobic coating.

The iPhone 6s is powered by a non-removable 1,810 mAh battery, whereas the iPhone 6s Plus packs a high-capacity 2,915 mAh battery.

Pricing options and availability

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be available in gold, silver, space gray and rose gold metallic finishes from $0 down with 24 monthly payments starting at $27 (US) and $31 (US), respectively, from Apple's retail stores in the United States, select carriers and authorized retailers.

Also, they will be available for pre-order beginning September 12, while sales commence on September 25. Customers in the following countries will be able to pre-order the new iPhones: US, UK, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Japan.

It's also worth mentioning that iPhone 6s will cost $199 (16GB) in the US with a new two-year agreement, whereas the 64GB model will be available for $299. The 128GB variant will be the most expensive at $399 on two-year agreements.

The iPhone 6s Plus can be had for $299 (16GB), $399 (64GB) or $499 (128GB). These prices require new two-year contracts on AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, or Sprint.
