Jade Primo won’t get Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update

Last year when Microsoft finally decided to release Windows 10 Mobile for Windows Phone devices, the company shocked everyone in the ecosystem by making the new OS available for only some 50 percent of its devices.

Redmond said at that point that the other 50 percent didn’t meet the requirements to benefit from a flawless experience in Windows 10, so it decided to leave them behind with no option to update.

And now pretty much the same thing is happening with the Jade Primo manufactured by Acer, which is not going to get the Anniversary Update because the parent company believes it could have a substantial impact on system performance.

No Anniversary Update, no Creators Update

In a statement released today, Acer explains that it has already tested Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update on the Jade Primo, and it discovered that the new bits make the phone unstable, so it’s better not to release it than to cause performance issues to users.

“Unfortunately, the Anniversary Update for the Acer Liquid Jade Primo leads to instability of the operating system. As the satisfaction of our customers is our number one priority and the current version is technically flawless and resilient, we have decided to refrain from an update after thorough consideration,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.

It’s probably just a matter of time until someone finds a way to get the Anniversary Update running on the device, although it goes without saying that this isn’t recommended because updating could indeed have an impact on device performance.

On the other hand, such a decision leaves everyone with a Jade Primo behind, but we don’t know for sure how many customers bought this model in the first place. And last but not least, without the Anniversary Update, this means that the device won’t get the Creators Update either, so this is pretty much the end for Acer’s Windows phone as well.
