14 DAY TRIAL // Long-time Windows Phone users surely know that the platform is having a hard time these days, with Microsoft itself remaining tight-lipped on the future of the operating system and with developers pulling their apps from the store because of low usage.
Today, another company has decided to leave the platform, once again citing the dropping demand, but also what it calls “limitations of the Windows Phone store” that made it impossible to deliver ongoing access to the app for existing users.
MyFitnessPal, one of the fitness apps developed to help you stay in tip-top shape, will no longer be available on Windows Phone but will continue to work on rival platforms. The company claims that development will now focus on Android and iOS and recommends Windows Phone users to switch to their browsers in order to access accounts.
Focus on Android and iOS apps
“Please accept our sincerest apologies if you can no longer find the MyFitnessPal Windows phone App or are having issues accessing the app. Unfortunately, due to several issues with the app, and not enough demand of the app from our members, we have decided to no longer offer an app on the Windows Phone platform,” a message provided by MyFitnessPal developing team reads (via WindowsCentral).
“Due to limitations of the Windows Phone store, we are unable to provide ongoing access to the app for existing users. Once a member logs out of the app, access to the app will no longer be available.”
This isn’t the first time developers are pulling their apps from the store and tell Windows Phone users to switch to their browsers in order to access accounts. The exact same thing happened with PayPal and Amazon, who both decided to shut down their Windows Phone apps but recommended users to switch to browsers in order to connect to their services from their phones.
Certainly, this isn’t really good news for Windows Phone and clearly not for users who were running the app, but with Microsoft saying nothing about what’s next for the platform, similar things are very likely to continue happening in the coming months.
