The feature could soon go live for insiders, it seems

One of the most important new features coming to Windows 11 users is support for Android apps, as Microsoft will allow everybody to install mobile apps from the Amazon Appstore right on their PCs.

This feature, however, isn’t yet live, despite Windows 11 currently rolling out to users, with Microsoft needing more time to make it happen.

And while insiders are likely the first ones to get their hands on Android app support, it looks like this release may not be too far, as WL has come across screenshots originating from China and showing some Windows 11 devices running apps built for Google’s mobile operating system.

In other words, Android apps have been spotted out in the wild running on Windows 11, which means Microsoft is currently running a limited test that could soon be expanded to more users out there.

Still no official ETA

Microsoft, however, has remained tight-lipped on everything related to Android apps on Windows 11, so as far as the company is concerned, this update is projected to land at some point in the future, but nobody knows exactly when.

“Starting later this year, people will be able to discover Android apps in the Microsoft Store and download them through the Amazon Appstore – imagine recording and posting a video from TikTok or using Khan Academy Kids for virtual learning right from your PC. We’ll have more to share about this experience in the coming months. We look forward to this partnership with Amazon and Intel using their Intel Bridge technology,” Microsoft said in the original Windows 11 announcement.

The company initially promised to launch this feature later this year, but right now, it’s not known if the same ETA would apply to production devices or only to those running preview builds in the Windows Insider program.
