14 DAY TRIAL // HMD Global has started rolling out Google's latest Android 8.1 Oreo mobile operating system to the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 (2017) smartphone users across the globe.
If you've been waiting to install Android 8.1 Oreo on your Nokia 5 or Nokia 6 smartphone, now you can finally update it to the most recent stable release of the Linux-based Android mobile operating system used by millions of mobile phone users all over the world.
Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, announced the Android 8.1 Oreo rollout for Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 (2017) users this weekend, so some of you out there should be able to install the new version, which comes with March 2018's Android Security Patch.
The Android 8.1 Oreo update is here only two months after the Android 8.0 one as HMD Global wants to offer their users the best possible Android mobile experience. Android 8.1 Oreo is tagged as build v5.580 and has about 875.1MB in size for the Nokia 6 (2017) and 866.7MB for the Nokia 5, according to a user on Reddit.
New Settings menu, revamped Power menu, and more
As expected, the Android 8.1 Oreo software update adds the usual features that other Android phones that were upgraded to this latest stable release received, including a new Settings menu, revamped Power menu, battery saving navigation buttons, Bluetooth battery percentage, as well as performance and security enhancements.
However, at least on the Nokia 5 case, the Android 8.1 Oreo release is powered by the Linux 3.18.71 kernel, which is a bit older than on more recent devices, but still supported upstream.
