14 DAY TRIAL // LG was among the first companies to release the Android 7.0 Nougat update for one of its smartphones earlier this month. The G5 started to receive the said update in South Korea, but the handset maker promised to push it worldwide in the coming weeks.
Fast forward two weeks and the update seems to have reached the United States, as LG G5 owners report they have received Android 7.0 Nougat at Sprint.
This is the first US-based carrier that kicks off the rollout of Nougat for the G5, but we can safely assume that AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon will follow in its footsteps very soon.
The information comes via Reddit, so it hasn't been made official by Sprint, but LG G5 owners in the United States should expect the update to hit their phones, too.
According to some users who downloaded the update, the Android 7.0 Nougat file is fairly sizable at 1.3GB, so make sure you have enough storage before attempting to upgrade your phone's software.
It could also add the November security patch
The official changelog mentions that Android 7.0 OS for the LG G5 brings improved performance, security updates, and other enhancements.
We don't know yet what security patch LG has included in the update. If it's the latest, then it should install the November security update on the G5.
It could take up to 30 minutes for Android 7.0 Nougat to install on the LG G5, so ensure that the phone's battery is fully charged before updating. It's also worth noting that the phone will be rebooted during the update process, so don't be alarmed.
Those of you who consider buying the LG G5 in the United States might want to hurry since the phone is subject to great discounts on Amazon where it's available for just $400 outright.
