HTC One M8, One M9 and Moto G (2015) will be upgraded

TELUS and Rogers, two of the largest carriers in Canada, have just confirmed that some of the smartphones in their portfolios will be getting the highly-anticipated Android 6.0 Marshmallow update by the end of the year.

As MobileSyrup points out, TELUS announced that the HTC One M8 would receive an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update sometime in December. The same goes for Motorola Moto G (2015), which should get the upgrade around the same timeframe.

On the other hand, Rogers states that HTC One M8 and HTC One M9 will receive the update as well, but the carrier does not mention when exactly it will happen. The only information we have is that the update is “Coming Soon,” so we expect more details to emerge in the next couple of weeks.

Keep in mind that these will not be the only smartphones to be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but they might be the first to receive the update.

Additional devices might get the update by the end of 2015

It's also worth mentioning that both carriers state the dates posted on their support websites are approximate and subject to change, so anything could happen by the end of the year.

The announcements don't really come as a surprise since both HTC and Motorola confirmed earlier this month that they already started working on Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates for several of their smartphones.

The One M8 and One M9 are HTC's most treasured flagship smartphones, so it makes sense for the Taiwanese company to want to upgrade them to Android 6.0 Marshmallow as soon as possible.

On the other hand, the Moto G (2015) is one of the most popular Android smartphones launched by Motorola this year, hence the decision to upgrade it to Marshmallow this year.

If you don't own any of the three smartphones mentioned earlier don't fret since both Rogers and TELUS are likely to offer Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrades for many more handsets in the coming months.
