Microsoft has launched a new special offer for students, which makes the Surface Pro 4 a must-have device, as the company is offering a free Xbox One with every new tablet that they purchase by April 14.

Basically, US students who buy a new Surface Pro 4 from a Microsoft Store in the next one month and a half will receive a free Xbox One gaming console, so the company is thus taking no less than $300 off from the purchase (this is the current price of the Xbox One without any other discounts).

The Surface 3 goes dark in December

Microsoft says this is an offer specifically supposed to help the company celebrate the debut of the Anniversary Update of Windows 10, which should land on PCs and mobile devices on August 2.

“To celebrate, we’d like to make it easy for everyone to enjoy the great new features in the Anniversary Update. Our free Windows 10 upgrade offer is available until July 29, and we’re also excited to share a few additional special offers. Students can save $300 when they purchase an Xbox One and Surface at Microsoft Stores,” the company says.

Certainly, this offer clearly comes in handy to students who want to be part of the Windows ecosystem, especially because the company is retiring the Surface 3, a tablet that has always been considered the best choice for this category of buyers.

The Surface 3 is the more affordable alternative to the bigger Pro model, but Microsoft decided to discontinue the device in December this year and focus on the rest of the lineup. There’s still no word on whether the company wants to bring a Surface 4 to the market or continue only with Pro models, but for the moment, this free Xbox offer is pretty much the best you can get if you’re a student and want a Surface 2-in-1 device.
