AMD announced on Friday that its 2nd generation AMD Ryzen processors are now ready for pre-order from numerous online stores across the globe ahead of the April 19 worldwide availability.

Coming one year after the launch of the first generation AMD Ryzen processors, the 2nd generation AMD Ryzen CPUs are here to offer improved performance and advanced features for a faster and smoother computing experience. They are described by AMD as the ultimate desktop processor designed for high-performance computing and gaming.

"Second generation Ryzen desktop processors take everything that made the original Ryzen so groundbreaking and makes it better – great performance combined with advanced technology to deliver an amazing experience for the most demanding users," said Jim Anderson, senior vice president and general manager, Computing and Graphics Group, AMD.

Meet the 2nd-generation AMD Ryzen  processors lineup

The 2nd generation AMD Ryzen CPU  processors lineup of four CPUs, namely AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, AMD Ryzen 7 2700, AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, and AMD Ryzen 5 2600. All four require discrete graphics cards and include advanced AMD SenseMI technology. While the AMD Ryzen 7 series boasts 8 cores and 16 threads, the AMD Ryzen 5 series features 6 cores and 12 threads.

Running at 3.7GHz, the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X processor has a maximum boost of 4.3GHz, and AMD Ryzen 7 2700 has a base clock of 3.2GHz, but it can be boosted at 4.1GHz. On the other hand AMD Ryzen 5 2600X runs at 3.6GHz by default and has a maximum boost of 4.2GHz, while AMD Ryzen 5 2600 runs at 3.4GHz and can be overclocked at 3.9GHz. All of them are supported on the new AMD X470 chipset.

AMD said that, for the first time, it included its world-class AMD Wraith cooler in the retail box of all four processors, though the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU includes the new Wraith Prism cooler, which is much more performant than the previous generation Wraith Max cooler.
