AMD Radeon VII has reached end of life, according to the latest industry reports, although AMD has yet to confirm through official channels.

Radeon VII arrived more as a surprise, at a time when fans were waiting for AMD to release a new generation of video cards based on the new 7nm Navi GPU. The community was skeptic at first, but the Radeon VII was actually a very good card, with a 1,800MHz and a whopping16GB of memory.

The then-new card was released to compete with Nvidia’s 2080 line, using raw power. There wasn’t hint of ray tracing, and the Direct X 12 support wasn’t stellar, not to mention the fact that it was power-hungry. But it still managed to hold its own.

End of life too soon

Software and hardware products reach end of life when a company decides to replace it or when the support is coming to an end. It’s unclear why AMD would choose to end the production of AMD Radeon VII, but logic dictates that it’s preparing to replace it with something else.

According to a report from Cowcotland, AMD's Radeon VII graphics card reached end of life and it’s no longer being manufactured. AMD initially dodged the question, saying that it's still available for purchase, but a second report from Tom’s Hardware and Puget Systems sort of confirms that AMD is relying on the existing stocks.

“We expect Radeon VII availability will continue to meet demand for the foreseeable future, delivering exceptional high-end 4K gaming and content creation experiences. You can find Radeon VII graphics cards on AMD.com,” said AMD for Tom’s Hardware.

While the status of the Radeon VII is still unclear, if you’re planning on getting one of these soon, you should hurry up before it goes out of stock.
