id Software wants to revitalize and reboot the Doom franchise, with a new game supposed to make a debut this year, and from the looks of it, Amazon France has just spilled the launch date.

The new Doom game was revealed during last year’s E3 conference, and there is not a lot of information about it. They are keeping all the interesting details about the game close to the chest, and they don't want to repeat the experience with Rage.

Some of you might remember that id Software worked on Rage just a few years ago, and despite the fact that the title garnered a lot of attention before the launch, from the media and the community, it didn’t do so well when it got into the hands of the players. It wasn’t a bad game, but it wasn’t as good as id Software said that it would be in the millions of videos and trailers released for it.

Doom is being kept a secret

The problem with Rage wasn’t that it was overly advertised. It wasn’t a terribly good game. It was a new IP, and we’re probably not going to see a sequel anytime soon. Doom, on the other hand, is a different beast, and the community has different expectations from it.

Information has been posted on Amazon France about a possible launch date for Doom on June 30. This is just a retailer, but it’s not the first time when Amazon France leaks current information about a game.

After the media had picked up on the fact that June 30 was listed as a launch date, Amazon France changed it to December 31, which just seems to be a placeholder. They either messed up by revealing the actual release date, or they did it right, but Bethesda doesn’t want people to know it just yet.

More information regarding the launch of the new Doom game will probably be available soon, now that the cat is out of the bag.
