An Amazon app for PC and tablets might be in the works

As originally announced last month, Amazon has officially pulled its Windows Phone app, prompting users who still want to access its services to connect to the website in the browser in order to do so.

But while losing the Amazon app for Windows phones is clearly bad news for the platform in general, and for users in particular, it turns out that it’s not all as grim as it sounds. According to reports, Amazon might be working on a new Windows 10 app that could see daylight in the coming months and offer support for PCs and tablets.

What’s odd, however, is that Amazon’s new app might not be developed to run on phones, which is a bit surprising, given the fact that mobile shopping is the one thing that users are looking for these days, and at this point, rumor has it that the company will only target PCs and tablets.

And yet, if Amazon releases a universal app, bringing it to smartphones is easy as pie, as porting a PC app to mobile isn’t really difficult thanks to Microsoft solutions specifically developed in this regard.

Based on Project Westminster

On the other hand, it looks like Amazon’s future app will be based on Project Westminster, so it’ll be more of a web wrapper with more advanced functionality.

For example, Westminster allows the creation of apps that embed websites with Windows 10 features, such as Cortana integration, live tiles, toast notifications, and more. If this is the case, Amazon’s app will look and work almost like a native Windows 10 app, but it remains to be seen if this is indeed the case.

At this point, there’s still no information as to when Amazon’s new app is scheduled to launch, but given the fact that users aren’t really willing to turn to the website to shop online, the company had better hurry up to bring it out as soon as possible.
