14 DAY TRIAL // While some developers jump on the Windows 10 bandwagon and create universal apps that can run on PCs and smartphones, others are leaving the platform in search of more users and bigger market share elsewhere.
After PayPal, another important company is very close to pulling its app from the Windows Phone store, this time without a clear reason.
Amazon’s official app for Windows Phone disappeared from search results earlier this week, so Windows Phone users can only download it if they have the direct link. In new statements provided to German website WindowsUnited, Amazon doesn’t specifically say that it’s leaving Windows Phone, but it does hint that such a scenario is possible.
“It is our first priority to offer our customers the best possible shopping experience, so our shopping app is no longer available for Windows Phone. We recommend customers Amazon.de call via your mobile browser, where they have access to all the shopping features,” the company explains.
No info on a potential Windows 10 version
As far as a Windows 10 version of the Amazon app that would work on both PCs and smartphones, the company says that “we have no information about our product planning.” In other words, no, a Windows 10 version of Amazon is not in the works, and the chances are that it won’t be too soon, but we can’t tell you that right now.
On the other hand, Windows Phone devices where the Amazon app is already installed can continue using it normally, the company says, as there’s no impact on these phones.
Without a doubt, seeing the Amazon app go is a massive loss for Windows Phone, especially because the platform needs to provide users with access to the most popular apps and services out there in order to generate excitement.
Unfortunately, however, interest in Windows Phone is dropping in the last few months, and although some hardcore users prove loyal and stick with the platform, developers decide to go where bigger opportunities exist.
