With the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung has brought many new features to its Note line of smartphones, including the highly anticipated iris scanner and a redesigned S Pen. The Galaxy Note 7 also comes with a new Always On Display, and the South Korean giant has enhanced some aspects of this technology.

Samsung has stated that the new feature will help users get more out of their smartphone, even when the screen is turned off. Moreover, the company has added that the feature also differentiates the Galaxy Note 7 from other devices on the market. It comes with the Screen off memo that can be used for replacing sticky notes and has new customizations options.

The Screen off memo allows users to write down reminders or lists using the S Pen, without having to wake up the phone. The memo will remain visible on the Always On Display for about an hour so that it can remind users of important events, and it also becomes visible when users double-tap the Memo icon. In addition, users can also store memos in the Samsung Notes app directly from the Always On Display feature.

Other than that, Samsung has expanded the amount of information that can be displayed. Aside from incoming calls and messages, Always On Display v1.7.12 pre-installed also gives access to the calendar for viewing important event, and users can check notifications from various applications, including third-party ones.

This wasn't possible with the Always On Display on Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Previously, users could only see notifications from stock apps like the S Planner and Messages.

The Always On Display feature also allows users to quickly reply to messages, edit calendar information or pause songs. Moreover, it comes with plenty of customization features and has tools for addressing worries regarding power consumption.

Samsung points out that the feature uses less than 1% of battery per hour, and it automatically turns off when the user activates the Night Clock or the battery goes below 5%.
