Seeing how it’s the most anticipated smartphone to be unveiled in Q1, reports on the Samsung Galaxy S8 surface on a daily basis. The latest comes from MySmartPrice which spotted an image on China’s social network Weibo.

The image allegedly shows protective cases for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, revealing that the fingerprint scanner might be indeed placed on the back of the phone, next to the camera. Take the information with a grain of salt, though, as the logo on the back of one case seems to have been edited, therefore weakening the leak’s credibility.

In addition, the cutout doesn’t really seem to be wide enough to accommodate the fingerprint sensor. There have been many reports of “leaked” images from case makers, some didn’t match the live image of the Galaxy S8, posted by reputable tipster Evan Blass. This latest image is in line with previous rumors, but that doesn’t mean that it’s 100% accurate.

Nonetheless, the fingerprint scanner is expected to be featured on the back of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, right next to the rear camera. Considering that the two phones are said to have 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch displays, the sensor’s location might be uncomfortable for some.

Samsung might screen a one-minute promo video of the Galaxy S8

Perhaps Samsung was forced to make a compromise, seeing how it decided to change the design of the upcoming flagship and remove the physical home button from the front. This makes way for a larger display on the phone and a lower screen-to-body ratio, while the fingerprint sensor was moved to the back.

If Samsung does indeed equip the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus with an iris sensor, then it would offer an alternative to those that might find the location of the fingerprint sensor a bit unfortunate. In addition, the iris scanner offers increased security over data stored on the phone and it was one of the main selling points for the discontinued Galaxy Note 7.

Hopefully, Samsung’s rumored one-minute video screening of the Galaxy S8 during MWC 2017 will once and for all end rumors regarding its design and offer a clear view of the phone.
