14 DAY TRIAL // Honor released the Honor 8 last year and alleged pictures of its successor surfaced online. The images show a design quite similar to Xiaomi’s Mi 6 flagship which was announced just a few days ago, thus casting a shadow of doubt towards the authenticity of these alleged Honor 9 pictures.
The first thing that makes us believe the images don't depict the real Honor 9, is the fact that the portrayed smartphone comes in a blue shade with a glossy back panel, strikingly similar to Xiaomi’s latest flagship. The front panel is almost identical with that of Mi 6, with an elliptical-shaped physical home button, earpiece, and front-facing camera which are almost identical to Xiaomi’s smartphone.
But it’s worth mentioning that last year’s Honor 8 featured a design quite similar to the one we can see in the recent images, except for the lower side of the front panel. The Honor branding was featured on the bottom bezel, while the physical home button was located on the back.
Honor 8 Pro was only recently released to some countries
If Honor decides to relocate the home button to the front, it would have to remove the “Smart Key.” The feature allowed users to program the button to perform various actions, like snap pictures, enable the flashlight, or launch an app with one move.
Moreover, Honor 8 Pro was only recently launched under the Honor V9 moniker in some countries, and it’s a bit too early to hear about its successor, the Honor 9. Another detail that we can distinguish from the images is the fact that the dual-camera setup and LED flash on the back panel don’t seem to have suffered any changes, while the position of the side buttons is the same as on Honor 8.
Still, the alleged Honor 9 seems to have smoother corners. Whether this is actually the Honor 9 is difficult to say for sure, but given the fact that it’s a bit early for leaks at this point, the image could indeed be fake so take it with a grain of salt.
