The team at The Creative Assembly is announcing that gamers will be able to celebrate the fact that the Total War franchise was created 15 years ago by playing all the titles linked to it for free on Steam during the weekend.

All players have to do is choose the installments they like and then download them once they appear in their library. They will able to try out all the core mechanics and see how they have evolved over the years.

The free play period for the Total War series is already live and will run until 6 PM Greenwich Mean time on Sunday, June 28.

For the first time, The Creative Assembly has also added to the service the first two titles it has ever created, the original Shogun and Medieval, with full compatibility with modern computers and improved resolution support.

Gamers can also play the recent Total War: Attila, Rome 2, Shogun 2, Fall of the Samurai, Empire, Napoleon and Medieval 2.

The promotion also offers a 75 percent price cut for the core titles and a 50% one for downloadable content, other than The Last Roman.

Attila is evolving as Warhammer becomes the focus for the studio

Today, players of the most recent Total War title can get their hands on the new downloadable content campaign, The Last Roman, which is designed to offer a new map and more challenges as players try to take on the role of Belisarius in order to reclaim the Western part of the empire from barbarian kingdoms.

A new free patch for Attila is also offered and gamers can also get access to the Suebi as a playable franchise in the core campaign, with the Battle of Dara also added for those who want a challenge.

While new content is being launched, the team at The Creative Assembly is shifting its resources to create the next installment, which is based on Warhammer.

Gamers will be able to take control of the Empire, the Orks, the Vampire Counts and Chaos as they explore the fantasy world created by Games Workshop and find ways to conquer it with a range of new creatures and mechanics.

The title will arrive on the PC at some point in 2016.
