No upgrade to 8GB of RAM just yet, it seems

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 lineup will include four different models, with the company planning to give up on the iPhone mini form factor and launch an all-new 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max model.

In other words, the upcoming generation will include two standard models – iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max – and two Pro siblings – iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max – with the screen sizes to now measure 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively.

No RAM upgrade

The introduction of a new model was seen by many as the living proof that Apple is trying to make a bigger difference between the standard and the Pro iPhones, and at some level, this is exactly what the company is really trying to do.

And of course, it’s only natural to expect more hardware upgrades under the hood, but as far as the RAM is concerned, nothing would change.

Analyst Jeff Pu says in a note to clients obtained by MacRumors that all iPhone 14 models launching this year will come with 6GB of RAM. In theory, this is good news given the standard iPhones currently available on the market (the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini) sport only 4GB of RAM, but on the other hand, it’s also a sign that Apple isn’t planning the upgrade to 8GB of RAM on the Pro models.

Furthermore, Pu says Apple will use ProMotion displays on all iPhones launching this year, therefore bringing the 120Hz refresh rate to all devices across its lineup.

The Pro models will start at 256GB of storage, so Apple could give up on the 128GB version. Surprisingly, however, Apple wants to make the standard versions available with just 64GB on the base model, possibly in an attempt to reduce the price of the device.

All models are projected to be announced in September, so until this happens, you’d better take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism.
