Samsung will unveil its new Galaxy S10 lineup on February 20, and one of the new features is expected to be a fingerprint sensor embedded into the display.

Rumors pointing to this feature have been around for several years already, but after companies like Huawei brought in-display fingerprint readers on their devices, Samsung appears ready to do the same thing with the Galaxy S10 series of devices.

And as discovered recently in Samsung Pay code, there’s a very good chance this will indeed happen, as at least one of the three Galaxy S10 models launching next month will boast this new fingerprint sensor.

Samsung is preparing an update for Samsung Pay that would display the authorization prompt higher on the screen in order to allow users to scan their fingerprints. The reader is likely to be embedded in the lower area of the display, so this is required to provide a seamless authentication process for payments.

Base model to come with fingerprint sensor on the side

At least one Samsung Galaxy S10 model is said to come with this fingerprint sensor, and leaks that have been swirling around the web in the last couple of months indicated that the only one to stick with a more traditional reader would be the base version.

A press render published online recently revealed that the base Galaxy S10 would have a fingerprint sensor placed on the side, whereas the other larger siblings would both come with the reader embedded into the glass.

The Galaxy S10 will be unveiled in February, while the first units will be shipped to customers in early March. The series will also include a 5G version of the Galaxy S10 that could go on sale at a later time and only in specific markets where 5G networks are already available. Pricing details aren’t available yet, but it’s believed the 5G model could cost nearly $1,500.
