14 DAY TRIAL // Alder's Blood is a mix of stealth and turn-based combat set in a dark, twisted world. Developed by Shockwork Games, the game started as a Kickstarter project that, sadly, didn't receive enough money to be funded.
However, the developers regrouped and decided to go ahead with the game. Today, the studio announced they finally narrowed down the release date of Alder's Blood, and surprisingly, it's not going to be launched on PC first as we initially thought.
For reasons unknown, developer Shockwork Games and publisher No Gravity Games have decided to bring Alder's Blood to Nintendo Switch on March 13. If you plan to play on PC, you'll have to wait until April 10, although it's not going to be a full release.
Yes, PC is getting the Early Access version on April 10, whereas PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will be launched as well at some point in the not-so-distant future. The game is already available for pre-order on Nintendo Switch for $14.99/£13.49 (25% discount included). Alder's Blood can also be wishlisted on Steam, but a free demo is also available for download.
In Alder's Blood, players must outsmart and outwit the monsters roaming a dying world by using stealth and ambush tactics. Speaking of monsters, the game includes anything from werewolves to vampires, each with their own attacks and skills. They can easily spot you by using their enhanced hearing and smelling skills, so you'll have to make sure your ambush position is well hidden.
Combat is turn-based, but it's as ruthless as Dark Souls' real-time combat. Moving, attacking and casting spells use stamina, so you'll have to carefully manage that resource as to not fatigue in the middle of the fight.
Alder's Blood also features an interesting “vagabond's exploration system” where you can travel the world and bring your mobile base with you. You'll be able to take shelter and manage your camp while in the wild, but you need to be careful not to be ambushed by enemies.
