14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft started a new product category with the Surface RT back in October 2012, and although most companies were pretty reluctant to create similar devices at first, pretty much everyone seems to be building 2-in-1 hybrids these days.
Alcatel is one of the latest companies joining this particular business, as it unveiled at MWC 2016 in Barcelona the new PLUS 10, 2-in-1 device coming with Windows 10 and based on the same approach as the Surface.
As you can see in the photos below, the PLUS 10 certainly looks good and does have a premium look, although it’s expected to be more affordable than the Surface (pricing details are not available at this point but should be disclosed later this year, when the device goes on sale).
Technical specifications
First of all, the PLUS 10 comes with a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels and is powered by a quad-core Intel Cherry Trail T3 Z8350 processor running at 1.92 GHz. Additionally, it features 2 GB of RAM and comes with 32 GB of built-in memory, but additional storage can be obtained with microSD card with a maximum capacity of 64 GB.
What’s interesting is that Alcatel tried to improve autonomy by implementing a battery into the keyboard as well, so the device comes with two different units that should provide several hours of continuous use (again, specifics are not available at the moment).
As a result, the device comes with a 5830 mAh battery integrated into the tablet and with a 2580 mAh unit built into the keyboard, which can also play the role of a Wi-Fi hotspot thanks to a wireless module placed under the keys.
Additionally, the Alcatel model comes with USB, microUSB, and microHDMI port on the tablet, plus a USB port on the keyboard.
The device will go on sale in June in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, and will be available in several colors, including matte white, volcano black, and metallic silver.
