14 DAY TRIAL // Alcatel isn’t among the biggest players in the smartphone market, but the company did make an appearance during MWC 2017 with three new affordable smartphones. One of the phones has a very appealing design element - LEDs on the back panel.
Alcatel announced the new A5 LED smartphone with a back panel covered entirely in LED lights. The LED panel can function as a notification light or a music equalizer. Users can also custom program LED lights to perform various actions.
The phone is actually a low-to-mid ranger running an octa-core 1.4GHz MediaTek processor and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It has a 5.2-inch 720p display and an 8MP rear camera with 5MP in the front. Internal storage capacity reaches 16GB, while the phone has 2GB of RAM.
The LEDs light up when users receive calls, messages, alarms or social media alerts. The integrated Color Catcher 2.0 feature lets users create LED cover patterns and themes, while the lights change colors when music is playing. Other than that, the phone features a slim design, but doesn’t impress with its specs.
Alcatel A3 and U5 were also introduced
Alcatel also announced the U5 phone with 5-inch display and 4G LTE connectivity options. The main advantage of this smartphone is its affordability, as the list of specs place the device in the low-range category.
It has 1GB of RAM and just 8GB of internal memory, a 2,050mAh battery, a quad-core 1.1GHz processor and a main camera of 5MP with LED flash and 2MP on the front.
The newly introduced Alcatel A3 offers “creative selfie tools for smart social starters,” but it also has some low-range specs like a 5-inch IPS HD display, 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. It runs Android Marshmallow out of the box and has an octa-core 1.25GHz SoC, 2,460mAh battery and a 13MP rear camera with 5MP in the front. The phone has some features for editing pictures, as well as an incorporated fingerprint sensor.
