Some say a fix was included in the latest updates

Apple’s AirTags are designed with privacy in mind, so they ping nearby Apple devices to alert users they might be tracked.

As we know already, this still doesn’t stop those with nefarious purposes from using AirTags to keep track of other individuals, but at least, it’s a way to stay in the know when someone might actually do the whole thing.

But as it turns out, having an AirPad moving with you isn’t only a privacy violation but also a headache from a battery perspective. Users claim that nearby AirTags cause a massive battery drain on their iPads, and while some say the glitch has already been resolved with the latest software updates, others claim this isn’t the case.

Not everybody is hitting the bug

There are several reports out there that signal the bug, and someone on Apple’s forums says they noticed a battery drop not only on the iPad but also on the iPhone.

“I have an iPhone 12pro max and iPad pro 11” 2021 running latest iOS… so I’ve been noticing batteries not lasting like it should… iPad typically takes 38% background activity in 24hr period iPhone 12%.. not sure why apple has designed to constantly ping the AirTags, why wouldn’t it be an “on demand “ action? For now , work around is to turn off Bluetooth when not needed… a pain, but seems effective… I’m wondering if I should have ever bought these things? Hopefully Apple will sort this out.. anyone else have any thoughts or solutions?” one user explains.

The problem isn’t necessarily new, and some reports are already several months old, but it’s still not clear why some people are still struggling with it.

If anything, make sure you downloaded and installed the most recent version of iOS on your device, no matter if you’re using an iPad or an iPhone.
